Home Improvement | Top Interior Design Ideas and Trends For 2010 ...

The word ?trends? can sometimes be misleading when talking about interior design ideas. A home and its interiors, you see, are meant to last for years (and even a lifetime). The word ?trends? connotes something that is fleeting and can easily become pass?. Fashion trends, for instance, come and go at the wink of an eye. Even trendy hairstyles are chic one minute and unhip the next.

Interior design ideas for this year are ?trends? that are meant to last. Don?t be surprised if you see these design ideas in many of the homes that are built even after 2010. The various home styles seen in many design magasines this year are inspired by the events and emerging philosophies of the past year. The green revolution has prompted many designers to choose a palette revolving around warm, earthy interior colours. The economic crisis and recession have also influenced home styles that are relaxing, calming and soothing. Revamp your flat or input some of these stylish designs into your new home. Read on to find out this year?s top home design ideas and trends.

* An earthy colour palette is a hit this year. Throw a little purple and orange in the mix. The worldwide focus on eco-friendly living has made greens, yellows and browns popular interior colours. A bedroom painted in light green can have a calming effect. A sitting room in brown, on the other hand, can be very inviting and homey. Punch up your palette with rich plums or purples. You can even use dark orange as accent colours.

* Layered rugs and carpets. This is one of the many interior design ideas that were inspired by the boho-chic style that was made popular last year. You can put a smaller area rug on top of a larger one. This creates an accent piece in your bedroom or sitting room. You can even layer rugs of the same pattern to fill up a whole floor. Choose colourful rugs with contrasting patterns. This results in a more avant-garde look.

* Using wallpaper on ceilings. To create unique home styles, you have to think out of the box or rather, in this case, off the wall. Many wallpaper have interesting, playful designs that can have a very stylish effect on your ceiling. Before sticking full wallpaper on your entire bedroom ceiling, experiment with small patches first. Stick small squares of at least four different types of wallpaper on your ceiling and check to see which one you like best.

* Furniture made out of renewable resources and eco-friendly materials. The green revolution is still going strong this year and more and more people have started buying earth-friendly furniture. This includes chairs, tables and sofas made of bamboo, recycled wood and other renewable or virgin sources.

* Mixing elements, furniture and styles that contrast with each other. Many people and designers don?t like home styles that look like they came straight out of a catalogue. One of the most popular interior design ideas that came out this year is to mix different elements and styles. Art Nouveau prints, for instance, can be framed on your wall, whilst a sleek, modern coffee table can hold Oriental wooden vases. You can also use large, modern, graphic textiles to add contrast to a Victorian-inspired sitting room.

This year ushers in a lot of exciting and interesting interior design ideas that you can use to renovate your home or add more character to your flat. Take the different design cues above and keep your home fresh, updated and stylish.

I have a Bachelor in Visual Arts, what kind of job can I apply for? or ...

FBWillie
Posted 8 hours ago

I have a BA in Graphic Design and I work at a car dealership.

Honestly, I do photography on the side, and every job I?ve had that required use of my degree paid a little over minimum wage.

I ended up where I am because I stopped dedicating 100% of myself to a career in visual arts. If that is the path you really want to take, there?s going to be some poor times, unless you can find another means of income that doesn?t destroy nearly all of your free time. It would definately be easier if you didn?t have a family. Not that it?s impossible with a family? But if you know of someone working in this field that has a 9-5, they?re lucky.

Bottome line, never lose your passion, and keep doing what you do. Opportunities will arise, but you may have to make a name for yourself before this ?business venture? starts to pay off.

Sorry I couldn?t be more help as for ways to sell your work. Photography?s a different beast than painting.

I suppose I should just stay out of this section.

Coppola, Ecclestone get stylish Italian weddings (Reuters)

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) ? Two globe-trotting celebrities, Sofia Coppola and Petra Ecclestone, held weddings in Italy over the weekend, one low-key and the other over-the-top, according to media reports on Sunday.

Academy Award-winning filmmaker Coppola and her longtime musician boyfriend, Phoenix frontman Thomas Mars, were married on Saturday in the Italian village that was home to Coppola's grandparents.

On the same day, British heiress Ecclestone tied the knot with businessman James Stunt outside Rome, capping a three-day event with a reported price tag that ranged widely from $2 million to $8 million, according to various reports.

The Ecclestone-Stunt wedding took place at the same castle where Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes married, and featured fireworks as well as performances by Eric Clapton and the Black Eyed Peas, according to People magazine.

Ecclestone, a 22-year-old fashion designer, is the daughter of former Armani model Slavica and Formula One racing chief executive Bernie Ecclestone. She's no stranger to lavish spending: In July, she paid $85 million for the Los Angeles mansion that was once the home of Aaron and Candy Spelling.

By contrast, Coppola and Mars were wed in a civil ceremony before 80 guests at the Coppola family's villa in the southern Italian town of Bernalda.

Wearing a custom lavender gown by Azzedine Alaia, the 40-year-old bride walked down the aisle on the arm of her father, "Godfather" director Francis Ford Coppola, who owns the estate, according to reports.

Coppola and rocker Mars, 34, have two daughters: Romy, 4-1/2, and Cosima, 15 months.

Coppola won the screenwriting Oscar for her movie "Lost in Translation," and became the first American woman to be nominated for an Academy Award for directing.

Her first marriage, to director Spike Jonze, ended in divorce in 2003 after four years.

Playing highly competitive video games may lead to aggressive behavior

ScienceDaily (Aug. 29, 2011) ? While most research into video games and aggressive behavior has focused on violent games, competitiveness may be the main video game characteristic that influences aggression, according to new research published by the American Psychological Association.

In a series of experiments in which video games were matched on competitiveness, difficulty, and pace of action, researchers found video game violence alone did not elevate aggressive behavior. However, more competitive games produced greater levels of aggressive behavior than less competitive games, no matter how much violence was in the games, according to research published online in Psychology of Violence. The study was conducted by lead author Paul J.C. Adachi, M.A., a PhD candidate at Brock University in Canada.

In one experiment, Adachi had 42 college students (25 men, 17 women) play one of two video games, "Conan" or "Fuel," for 12 minutes. "Conan" is a violent game in which the main character battles for survival using swords and axes. "Fuel" is a nonviolent racing game. In a pilot study, both games were rated evenly in terms of competitiveness, difficulty and pace of action, but differently in terms of violence. After participants finished playing the game, they were told they were going to take part in a separate food tasting study. Participants had to make up a cup of hot sauce for a "taster" who they were told did not particularly like hot or spicy food. The participants could choose from one of four different hot sauces (from least hot to most hot) for the taster to drink. The authors found that there was no significant difference in the intensity and amount of the hot sauces prepared by the participants who played "Conan" and those who played "Fuel." The authors concluded that, in this study, video game violence alone was not sufficient to elevate aggressive behavior.

In a second experiment, Adachi had 60 college students (32 men, 28 women) play one of the following four video games: "Mortal Kombat versus DC Universe," a violent fighting game rated as highly competitive and very violent; "Left 4 Dead 2," a violent, moderately competitive first-person shooter game in which the main character battles zombies using guns; "Marble Blast Ultra," a nonviolent, noncompetitive game where players control a marble through a series of labyrinth-like mazes as quickly as possible; and "Fuel," the highly competitive, nonviolent racing game from the first study. Afterward, the students completed the same hot sauce tasting test from the first study. Electrocardiograms measured the participants' heart rates before and during video game play.

On average, students who played the highly competitive games, "Fuel" and "Mortal Kombat versus DC Universe," prepared significantly more of a hotter sauce than participants who played "Marble Blast Ultra" and "Left 4 Dead 2," the least competitive games. They also had significantly higher heart rates.

"These findings suggest that the level of competitiveness in video games is an important factor in the relation between video games and aggressive behavior, with highly competitive games leading to greater elevations in aggression than less competitive games," wrote Adachi.

How To Recognize Brain Cancer ? primary brain tumor, leukemia ...

Coordination complex: In chemistry, a coordination complex or metal complex, is an atom or ion (usually metallic), bonded to a surrounding array of molecules or anions, which are in turn known as ligands or complexing agents.
Coordination number: In chemistry and crystallography, the coordination number of a central atom in a molecule or crystal is the number of its nearest neighbours.
Diplopia: Diplopia, commonly known as double vision, is the simultaneous perception of two images of a single object that may be displaced horizontally, vertically, or diagonally (i.e.

A tumor is the result of an abnormal cell division condensing into mass. In the case of a brain tumor, the abnormal cell growth originates in or around the brain (primary brain tumor) or may even be the result of the spread of a tumor from another part of the body (metastatic tumor). About 25% of tumors that begin anywhere else in the body, such as in the cases of leukemia and lymphoma, may metastasize to the brain.

A tumor may be benign (meaning it will not spread aggressively) or malignant, and brain cancer refers to tumors that are of the malignant kind.?

In the US, 15 to 20 people per 100,000 are diagnosed with brain cancer.

How can one recognize brain cancer? First of all, it?s important to note that symptoms usually develop over time and that its manifestations depend on the size and location of the tumor. However, brain cancer has some general symptoms; if a patient feels any of these, it?s best to have him consulted and diagnosed immediately. Though these symptoms do not automatically signify cancer and may be indicative of another condition, it?s still better to be sure by having a check up. Remember, the best way to fight cancer is always through early detection.

  • Severe, intense headaches especially in the mornings. These headaches usually are most intense in the mornings and are accompanied by nausea and vomiting; these headaches tend to disappear gradually as the day progresses.
  • Seizures.? Seizures are periods of involuntary contraction of a group of muscles accompanied by possible loss of consciousness. They also include abrupt transformation in the overall behavior and body control of the person.
  • Hearing and vision problems. This may involve partial loss of vision or double vision (being cross-eyed); and experiencing a buzzing or ringing sound, which may eventually lead to hearing loss.
  • Unusual neuromuscular conditions. This involves specific symptoms such as frequent losing of grip, frequent falls, and lack or decrease of neuromuscular coordination such as facial muscle weakness. It may also include experiencing abnormal sensation on arms, head, or any other part of the body, and also weakness on one side of the body.
  • Unusual mental conditions. A patient may experience difficulties in remembering things (short term memory loss), thinking and making decisions; confusion; less ability to concentrate and to become alert; and even temporarily forgetting how to understand and use language.
  • Unusual emotional conditions. A patient may experience some degree of unexplained emotional imbalance such as feelings of high lethargy and fatigue (manifested by increased sleepiness), discomfort, depression or drowsiness, moodiness, irritability and impatience.

To determine if a patient is positive for a tumor, he will need to undergo imaging tests such as CT (Computerized Tomography) scans and MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging). Through these tests, the doctor will also be able to pinpoint the size and location of the tumor; however, a biopsy must be performed to determine the type of the tumor and whether it is malignant or benign.

Best HP TouchPad Apps (Digital Trends)

Since HP?s TouchPad firesale brought prices on the tablet down as low as $99, a number of you have picked one up, and so have we. Since HP chose to use its own proprietary webOS operating system, not all of your favorite apps may be here, but fear not. We?re here to help. There are a number of great apps specifically built for the TouchPad, perhaps more than Android tablets currently offer. Below are a few of our favorites.

For more HP TouchPad goodness, here are a few related articles:?

Before you read all those articles, check out these apps!

Epicurious on HP TouchPad

Epicurious Recipes (Free): The TouchPad has some good apps, but for its purpose, Epicurious may be the best recipe and cooking app we?ve tried on any tablet platform. The app lets you choose from 30,000 recipes (or submit your own) and its instructions are straightforward. Best of all, if you choose a recipe, it will automatically add the ingredients to a shopping list, so you know what you have to buy. Recipe sharing is easy, too.

Glimpse ($5.00): Glimpse costs a few dollars, but it?s probably the largest and most full-featured app available for the TouchPad. It?s actually an app full of little apps (or widgets). Glimpse lets you connect to RSS, Twitter, weather reports, YouTube, has a browser, stocks, Google Reader, Read It Later, and other services. But it?s more than that. Much like one of the upcoming features of Windows 8, Glimpse lets you run two or three of its apps at the same time. Listen to music while you read Twitter, check your RSS while you watch YouTube, etc. It?s a very cool idea and works well. Check it out.

Accuweather for HP TouchPad (Free): The weather is kind of boring, but we all want to know about it. Accuweather has interactive maps, emergency warnings (in case a giant hurricane is barreling toward your city), disease and outdoor warnings (how common is the flu in your area right now?), video updates, and an extended forecast. ?

Angry Birds HD on HP TouchPad

Angry Birds HD (Free) and Angry Birds Rio HD ($1.99): The TouchPad has a few good games on it like Robotek and Radiant, but Angry Birds is still our favorite. Unlike most games studios, Rovio has fully adapted Angry Birds to the TouchPad. It looks pretty and runs smoothly. Enjoy your pig and bird massacre.

Camera for TouchPad (99 cents): The TouchPad has many great qualities, but it?s lack of a rear camera is somewhat disappointing as is its lack of camera software for its 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera. This app lets you take pictures with the front camera using the volume rocker as a shutter button. This lets you attempt to aim it at things other than your face when you take photos, but the process is still a bit difficult. ?Still, it?s something.

TuneIn Radio (Free): For those of you who like radio and podcasts, TuneIn is a good option. It lets you instantly connect to stations and programs from sources like NPR, and has a good database of podcasts to subscribe to as well. It also lets you look up an artist or song and listen to it if its playing on any radio station. We recommend RadioLab if you?re looking for a particularly amazing radio show.?

HP Movie Store on HP TouchPad

HP Movie Store (Free):?Unfortunately, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon OnDemand, YouTube Movies and Vudu are all absent from the TouchPad. If you?d like to rent (please don?t buy) a new movie for your TouchPad, HP?s Movie Store is the best and only option. We didn?t have a problem with it, found it had a good selection of TV shows and movies, and its rental prices are a standard $2.99 to $3.99.

InterfaceLIFT HD (Free): Interface LIFT is a pretty simple app. It has a library of photos that you can use as wallpapers. That?s it. Surprisingly, adding a wallpaper to our TouchPad has really livened it up. And hey, it?s free, so why not check out the many?beautiful?photographs available?

Pandora (Free): If you want to download MP3s, then 7Digital MP3 music is your best option, but for some casual listening, Pandora is still king. Unfortunately, this app isn?t configured for the TouchPad, so it is small and runs on an emulated Palm Pre on your screen. Luckily, even shrinkified, Pandora still works.?

Mosaic Reader on HP TouchPad

Mosaic Reader (Free):?If you read as much news as we do (there?s almost no chance that you do), a good news reader is essential to your daily life. Mosaic Reader attempts to take a somewhat Flipboard-like approach and display stories and pictures in a mosaic of tiles, allowing you to glance around at your leisure. And while it has connections?

One of the Best Approaches to Real Estate Online Marketing is ...

As the real estate market gets hyper competitive, turning into a buyer?s market, many top realtors are turning to real estate online marketing. Now, real esate Internet marketing can be a great way to generate leads and ultimately jump start sales ? but only if one goes about it correctly. One of the best approaches to real estate online marketing is Search Engine Optimization, or SEO. A reputable SEO consulting firm can work wonders when it comes to driving traffic to your real estate online marketing website.

SEO services are also one of the most effective ways to use your real estate marketing dollars. Traditional advertisements in print and broadcast media is costly; rates for even a quarter-page ad in a national magazine can run thousands of dollars, with no guarantees and no way to measure results.

SEO is a proven scientific approach to increasing web traffic to a given site by raising search engine rankings. In other words, you want to be sure that when a potential client enters keyword phrases related to real estate into a search engine that your realtor internet marketing website is at or near the top of the results. Studies show that web surfers rarely go beyond the third web page of results, which is why it is vital to make sure your real estate marketing website is among the first s/he sees.

After the initial consultation, SEO consultants conduct in-depth research in order to determine exactly what keyword phrases are currently being used by people online in order to find relevant results. When it comes to real estate marketing, this is not always as obvious as it seems; the words Internet users might choose to look for a particular product or service are not always the same as those that would be used by someone in the business.

After you start to program your garden, whether or not its to be a perennial, annual or perhaps a mixture of each 1 with the very first and most fundamental of gardening suggestions is always to know your hardiness zone. For annual gardens the hardiness zone is not seriously critical due to the fact your plants and flowers only last for the 1 season. But for those perennial plants it?s OH so critical!

By hardiness zone we mean how gold it gets within the winter. Your perennial plants and/or shrubs might be left outside all through the winter so they should have the ability to survive until the subsequent season.

You will discover two universally accepted hardiness zone maps; the initial could be the USDA map plus the second may be the United States Hardiness Arborteum Plant Zone Map. Each will provide you with exceptional gardening suggestions on your hardiness zone and really superior insight on which plants will grow properly for you once you get to that point in planting your garden.

Gardening tip ? No matter whether you might be purchasing your perennial plants or beginning them from seed, make sure to purchase those which are hardy within your zone. If you?re tempted to purchase plants or modest shrubs, and you might be, which are not hardy to your zone, it is possible to make them container plants and maintain them more than the winter indoors. Perennial plants which are hardy to you zone may be planted inside the ground and maintained more than the winter season.

The second most essential gardening guidelines is always to know your soil. In most places it is possible to send a sample of your soil into your nearby region conservation agency. In most locations there?s a lengthy turnaround time for this service and usually a modest fee.

Gardening tip ? It is possible to choose up soil sample kits at numerous farm and lawn shops, garden center or on the web and test your personal soil right away!

Right after testing your soil you are going to need to make whatever adjustments are required based on your soil kind. A lot of the soil sample kits you obtain will let you know what you must do to amend your soil. Whatever you will need no matter if it be lime, fertilizer or whatever you?ll be able to obtain at a nursery or lawn and garden shop. Nursery shop owners are really often your ideal source of details on soil amendments as they?re quite familiar using the kind of soil within your region.

The third most critical of gardening recommendations may be the quantity of sun your plants will probably be obtaining. This really is as crucial for annuals as perennials as every single will tolerate sun, partial sun/shade or shade.

An further gardening tip ? When you do not have a best garden spot to plant your garden, look at a raised bed garden. This kind of garden could be built in practically any location, in any shape you wish and could be planted with shrubs, perennials, and annuals. This may well be the most effective of all worlds.
