Other Sports: Gay feels 'let down' over drugs scandal

American sprinter Tyson Gay will miss next month's World Championships after he tested positive for a banned substance.

Gay feels 'let down' over drugs scandal

Gay, one of the fastest men in the world over 100m, announced on Sunday that he has been informed by the US Anti-Doping Agency that he failed a drugs test in May.
The 30-year-old said he put his trust in somebody and was let down. He admitted he "made a mistake", although he could not reveal the substance in question or how it happened.
"I know exactly what went on, but I can't discuss it right now. I hope I am able to run again, but I will take whatever punishment I get like a man," said Gay.
Only Usain Bolt has bettered the 9.69 personal best Gay ran four years ago, a time which has been matched by Jamaican Yohan Blake.
Gay had been a stand-out performer in 2013, clocking the three fastest times of the year. However, it has now emerged he had some assistance.
USA Track & Field, the sport's US governing body, said: "It is not the news anyone wanted to hear, at any time, about any athlete.
"As we approach the World Championships, we will remain focused on the competition at hand and winning the right way."
