AUSTIN -- There's another name in the running for Texas Governor.

State Attorney General Greg Abbott officially entered the race on Sunday. Abbott kicked off his 2014 campaign season in San Antonio to a crowd of supporters. He's up against former Workforce Commissioner and State Party Chair Tom Pauken in the Republican Primary.

Pauken announced his candidacy last week. Both are spreading their campaign goals.

"Our traffic congestion is getting too thick and our schools must do better. We can solve those problems not by raising taxes, but by right-sizing government and putting real limits on spending in Austin," said Abbott.

"I just think we need a different style of leadership in Austin and a different style of leadership in Washington as well," argued Pauken.

Abbott currently holds the financial advantage with more than $20 million in his campaign account. While there is no official candidate on the Democratic ticket, talk and donations are growing.

A fundraiser is scheduled for Monday evening in downtown Austin for State Senator Wendy Davis. Many want Davis to lead their party. Experts say if she does enter the race, she's up for a hard fight.

"Many Hispanic Democrats are Catholic and pro-life, and certainly amongst the older Hispanics. I don't think her message is being well-received," said former State Representative Aaron Pena. "That's going to be a nuance they're going to have to deal with."

Senator Davis' fundraiser begins at 7 p.m. at the W Residences in downtown Austin.

Abbott, meanwhile, is launching a 10-city tour in Texas. He will visit Houston and McAllen on Monday.
